I don’t know that there is a whole lot in life period that I can say that I can’t do… Just things that I haven’t done yet.

No, this is not a motivational phrase that I came up with. It’s the words of the man featured in the video below, Richie Parker. When people like Richie, are put in the public eye, it’s not for sympathy, or help. It’s to show us that no matter what you’re thrown in life, you have a choice: adapt, or get let it beat you. Richie has let nothing beat him.

Richie is truly inspiring, being born without arms, and conquering all challenges life has thrown at him. The video stirs up feelings of inadequacy, and guilt in some (like me). Feelings like “If he can do this with his life, than what is my excuse?”. We all have decisions we make throughout the day. All day, every day, we have a choice in how to live our lives. Unfortunately many if us will squander this precious gift of life, and strive for nothing more than mediocre.

Richie is absolutely no different than you or I. What makes him special is a winning attitude, an attitude that says “There is nothing I can’t do.” In this digital age, some of the best relationships people make are online with people they have never seen face to face. Whether a person has 0,1,2 or even 3 arms is not important. It’s character that matters, and Richie proves this.

“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character“.
Martin Luther King Jr.

We should all strive in life to be the absolute best every single day with what we were given. I know each of us may have some limiting beliefs. Maybe you think that you’re forgetful, or not as smart as everyone else. Maybe you think there is some magic gene that makes people great, and you don’t have that gene. What ever you believe, you have a choice to make: adapt, or let it beat you.

Live life to the fullest, and don’t waste it on sorrow or regret. If you’re reading this, then you still have the ability to adapt.

Adapt and overcome. Life the life that you know is possible. Be the person that you see in your head when you picture the best possible you.

“Your perseverance is the measure of faith in yourself.”
